What is the interest rate for Direct Saver?

The Direct Saver interest rate is variable and may change from time to time. View current and historical interest rates

Who can apply for Direct Saver?

Direct Saver can only be used for personal purposes (not business use) and must be opened in your own name. You must be an Australian resident to apply online for a Direct Saver Account.

How do I apply for Direct Saver?

What documents do I need to provide when applying for Direct Saver?

For security reasons, if you link your Direct Saver to an everyday banking account at an Australian financial institution other than St.George, we require proof that the linked everyday banking account belongs to you.

To provide proof of ownership:

  1. Complete and sign the Proof of Account Ownership form


  2. Attach a copy of your linked everyday banking account statement (less than 6 months old). The name and address shown on the statement must match the details provided on your Direct Saver application.

    If the address on the statement is not the same as the home address please also provide a copy of either a driver's licence, a utility bill, a rate's notice or an ATO notice that shows the same details as the Direct Saver. (Please note that if you provide an original, it will not be returned.)


  3. Send to St.George Processing, PO BOX 1101, PARRAMATTA, NSW 2124

Once we receive the proof of ownership, your Direct Saver will be linked to your everyday banking account within 2 business days.

Note : If applicable, you will automatcially be issued with the Proof of Ownership Form when applying online or over the phone.

How do I access the money in my Direct Saver?

You need to link an everyday banking account to your Direct Saver. You can then access your money by making Internet and Phone Banking transfers from your Direct Saver to your linked everyday banking account.

What accounts can I link to my Direct Saver?

You must link an everyday banking account from an Australian financial institution to your Direct Saver. The linked everyday banking account must be in the same name/s as your Direct Saver.

(The linked account can also be referred to as your nominated account.)

Link to a St.George everyday banking account.

Link to an everyday banking account with another Australian financial institution.

  • If you are linking your Direct Saver to a non-St George everyday banking account, transferred funds are available on the next business day (when the transfer is made before 3.30pm on a business day)
  • For security reasons, prior to linking your non-St.George account to your Direct Saver, we require proof that the linked everyday banking account belongs to you. Once we receive your completed Proof of Account Ownership form, your everyday banking account will be linked within 2 business days.

^ Access to your money is subject to systems availability and maintenance.

How do I deposit money into my Direct Saver?

Using Internet or Phone Banking, you may transfer money from any account into your Direct Saver.

We will transfer the first deposit on your behalf within 2 business days of your account being opened. Specify the opening deposit amount in your Direct Saver application and we will transfer this amount from your linked everyday banking account to your Direct Saver.

How do I withdraw money from my Direct Saver?

To withdraw money from your Direct Saver, you must have it linked to your everyday banking account. Use Internet or Phone Banking to transfer money from your Direct Saver to your linked everyday banking account and then withdraw funds from there.

For security reasons:

  • Transfers from your Direct Saver may only be made to your linked everyday banking account
  • You cannot withdraw money from your Direct Saver until your Direct Saver is linked to an everyday banking account

Transfers can only be initiated to you; St.George staff cannot make transfers on your behalf.

How do I set up an Automatic Savings Plan?

Can I link more than 1 Direct Saver to my everyday bank account?

Yes, you can link up to 15 separate Direct Saver accounts to your everyday banking account, as long as they are in the same name/s.
