BPAY View

What is BPAY and how do I set it up?

BPAY is a national electronic bill payment service, jointly developed by Australia's leading financial institutions. If your bill displays the BPAY logo, you can use BPAY to pay it through St.George Phone or Internet Banking.

There is no set up required. Once you are registered to for Internet Banking, BPAY is ready to use. Simply check that the BPAY logo is displayed on your bill, note the Biller Code, the Customer Reference Number and the amount you need to pay, then follow the step-by-step instructions provided.

To make things easier for you, Internet Banking can remember each biller you pay and store them as your favourite Billers. Using Internet Banking you can pay your bills straight away or schedule for them to be paid later. You can even set up regular payments weekly, fortnightly or monthly for up to 24 months in advance. You will get a receipt each time you make a payment.

What are the Customer Reference Number and Payer Name and do I have to enter these?

The Customer Reference Number (CRN) and Payer Name identify you and the bill you are paying to the biller.

You must enter the CRN to process the payment. The Payer Name is not a mandatory field, but any information you choose to enter here will be sent to the biller.

Where do I find the Biller Code and Customer Reference Number (CRN)?

The Biller Code and Customer Reference Number are located next to the BPAY logo on your bill.

Which bills can I pay via BPAY?

Over 13,000 bills accept BPAY including phone bills, utilities, credit cards and much more. Look for the distinctive BPAY logo in the payment section of your bill or visit the BPAY website for a complete list of BPAY billers.

Are there any minimum or maximum limits that apply?

Each Biller sets individual minimum and maximum transaction limits; these may be higher or lower than the limits we impose. We set a maximum daily limit of $100,000 per day however certain billers have a reduced limit of $15,000.

Can I schedule a payment for a later or recurring date?

Yes, you can schedule a payment up to 24 months in advance. You can also set up regular payments weekly, fortnightly or monthly for up to 24 months in advance.

What is the cut off time for payments and how long does it take for the money to reach the biller?

Cut off time is 5.30pm (AEST), 7 days/week. If you instruct us to make a BPAY payment before the time specified, it will in most cases be treated as having been made on the same day. However, if you instruct us to make a BPAY payment on a Saturday, Sunday or a public holiday or if another participant in the BPAY Scheme does not process a BPAY payment as soon as they receive the details, the payment may take longer to be credited to the biller.

BPAY payments require additional processing times due to the processes involved. Regardless of whether the payment is made to a St.George account or another financial institution, we require at least one day to process our side of the transaction. In addition, St.George cannot control when a participant in the BPAY Scheme processes their side of the transfer/payment.

Therefore we advise you to allow up to two working days for your transfer/payment to process. Rest asured St.George will always endeavour to process all transactions in a timely manner.

Whilst we endeavour to process all transactions in a timely manner, St.George cannot control when a participant in the BPAY Scheme processes their side of the transfer/payment. Therefore please allow up to two working days for your payment or transfer to be processed.

If you have made a payment incorrectly, please contact our Internet Banking Helpdesk on 1300 555 203 (+612 9845 4160 overseas) 8am – 9pm (AEST) seven days/week.

There are two procedures that can be initiated:

  2. Trace – A trace will locate the destination of the funds.

Can I make BPAY payment with my credit card account?

A number of Billers do not accept payment from credit card accounts. However, this varies and is at the discretion of the biller who is providing the bill.

To find the payment options offered by a specific biller, visit the BPAY website and type in the Biller Name. Some Billers may charge a surcharge for payments made from a credit card account. Again, this is at the discretion of the biller, and the surcharge would usually be added to the next bill.

Is there a fee to use BPAY?
