St.George SENSE - FAQs

  1.  How does St.George SENSE work and does it have one or two accounts?

St.George SENSE is two accounts that work together to help you manage your everyday spending and increase your savings – a SENSE Everyday Transaction Account and a linked SENSE Savings Account.

    1. The SENSE Everyday Account is a transaction account that can be used to deposit and withdraw funds as well as make purchases and pay bills.
    2. The SENSE Savings Account pays interest from the first dollar.

To deposit or withdraw amounts to and from your SENSE Savings Account you will need to transfer amounts to and from your SENSE Everyday Account.

  2.  If I already have a St.George savings account, can this be linked to the SENSE Everyday Account rather than a SENSE Savings Account?

No. A requirement of St.George SENSE is that both the SENSE Everyday and SENSE Savings Accounts are opened and linked.

  3.  Can I order a cheque book on St.George SENSE?

No, but other payment methods are available. You can use your Visa Debit Card or your FreedomCard, BPAY® and Internet Banking transfers to make payments.

  4.  I want my employer to credit my salary into my St.George SENSE account. What account number should be used?

    Your SENSE Everyday account number.

  5.  What is rounding? How does it help me save?

Each time we process a purchase made from your SENSE Everyday Account using your Visa® Debit Card, FreedomCard, Maestro/Cirrus ATM Card or BPAY® transaction, and that amount is not a whole dollar amount, we round up the transaction amount to the next dollar and transfer the amount of the rounding to your SENSE Savings Account.

    Here’s an example:
Jill purchases groceries totaling $32.45 at her local supermarket. She uses her St.George Visa Debit Card to pay for her groceries via EFTPOS from her SENSE Everyday Account.

    1. $32.45 is debited from Jill’s SENSE Everyday Account and paid to the supermarket; and
    2. $0.55 is transferred from Jill’s SENSE Everyday Account into her SENSE Savings Account, within two business days.

You’ll be saving automatically when you shop, with every small rounding amount automatically transferred into your SENSE Savings account.

Note: ‘Purchases’ refers to those made in Australian dollars, to a merchant located in Australia, using your Visa Debit Card, Freedom Card, Maestro/Cirrus ATM Card and BPAY. We also round withdrawals using your Visa Debit Card when you press the credit button (at an ATM), withdrawals at an Electronic Agency and through Bank@Post and for purchases made overseas using your Maestro/Cirrus ATM Card.

  6.  Is rounding optional?

Rounding is part of this product and is not optional. Rounding is a useful key feature of St.George SENSE and its aim is to help you save.

  7.  How do I know which transaction the rounding is for?

The rounding transaction description will include the original transaction amount.

  8.  How can I update my savings target?

The savings target can be set and changed via Internet Banking, by calling 13 33 30 or at any St.George branch.

  9.  Which account is my savings target for – SENSE Everyday or SENSE Savings?

Your savings target is set for funds in your SENSE Savings Account. You will contribute to your savings target automatically by rounding amounts. To save even faster, you can also set up a regular transfer from your SENSE Everyday Account to your SENSE Savings Account.

  10.  How are transactions assigned to the expense categories?

Electronic transactions are assigned to a category based on information provided by third parties. We’ve assigned 10 expense categories: Cash, Home Expenses, Daily Living, Health & Education, Transportation, Leisure, Insurance & Super, Transfers, Other. To maximise the benefit of transaction groupings you should use your Visa Debit Card or FreedomCard for as many transactions as possible and limit your use of cash.

  11.  Can I change the expense categories or the way transactions are assigned to these categories?

No. The categories are the same for all customers.
