Easy steps to make sure you’re protected when moving house

Despite your careful planning, accidents can happen when you are moving house. You may not be aware that your home contents are not covered under your current Home and Contents cover while they are being moved. 

St.George Home Removals Insurance protects your goods against accidental, or deliberate, loss and damage when moving within Australia.

Step 1: Choose your cover

St.George Home Removals Insurance offers you two types of cover depending on how you choose to move house:

  • Gold cover – top cover to protect your goods against accidental, or deliberate, loss or damage when you hire professional removalists to pack and transport your goods
  • Silver cover – protects your goods for loss or damage, caused by a variety of major transit risks, when you pack yourself. Your goods are covered if a professional removalist removes your goods or if you move yourself (in transit only).

If you have a St.George Home and Contents policy, you should advise us within 14 days of permanently moving your contents to a new address to ensure your Home and Contents cover remains valid.

Call us on:

  • 1800 009 796, Monday to Friday 9am - 9pm (Sydney Time), or
  • 1300 795 006 after business hours to make a claim.

At the time of loss or damage:

  • Notify your removalist that you have damaged or missing goods, then contact us as soon as possible
  • Do everything possible to prevent further loss or damage 
  • Do not allow anyone to repair, or replace, your goods until seeking assistance from us first.
