St.George’s MoneyMeter Smartwatch App named Money Mag’s Best New Innovative Banking App
St.George Bank’s MoneyMeter Smartwatch App has been ranked the Best New Innovative Banking App in Money Magazine’s 2015 Best of the Best Innovation awards, released today.
As the first bank in Australia to launch mobile banking on a smartwatch, the prestigious industry award is further recognition that St.George is at the forefront of innovation and technology with its unique MoneyMeter Smartwatch App.
The MoneyMeter Smartwatch App allows customers to check their account balance from their smartwatch without having to take their phone out or logon to mobile banking. St.George customers can also search for the nearest ATM or branch – all from the convenience of their watch.
Travis Tyler, Head of Mobile at St.George Bank said he is thrilled to receive the award which recognises St.George’s early move into wearable technology and adds momentum to the bank’s mobility-only strategy.
“This app is an example of how we extend our mobile banking services into other devices and support new technology, all the while making it easier for our customers to make the most out of the features provided by smartwatches.
“As wearable technology becomes more popular, St.George wants to make it seamless for its customers to do their banking from whichever device they choose, such as supporting the iWatch when the technology is available,” he said.
Since its launch in September last year, the St.George MoneyMeter App has been popular with over 2,500 downloads for Sony SmartWatch and over 250 downloads from the recently released Samsung Gear 2.
“The take-up of mobile banking on smartwatches has been a success and St.George is committed to expanding its MoneyMeter App to more smartwatches as they become available to the market,” Travis said.
The award-winning MoneyMeter Smartwatch App follows a number of recent St.George innovations this year, including being the first bank in Australia to launch biometric logon capability, the introduction of iBeacon technology, and a trial app for Google Glass.
