2 September 2016

Surry Hills-based community organisation The Girls & Boys Brigade has received a grant of $41,106 to support young people aged between 11 and 18 years who often experience significant socio-economic challenges in their lives.

The Youth Program run by The Girls & Boys Brigade offers services for young people who may be struggling with issues at home, school, in relationships or with their mental or physical health. The Brigade runs after school programs, weekly dinners, vocational and life skills workshops and camps and holiday programs, as well as individual support services.

Sarah Ison OAM, Executive Officer of The Girls & Boys Brigade said, “The Youth Program encourages young people to socialise and build resilience, as well as practical skills and healthy relationships through education, activities and individual support.”

“We are thrilled to partner with St.George Foundation and this generous donation will enable us to continue assisting teenagers who need support and encouragement through our Youth Program,” Sarah added.

Vanessa Barry, Head of St.George Foundation said, “We are delighted to support The Girls & Boys Brigade in providing services for young people facing substantial challenges.

“The Girls & Boys Brigade is one of 12 community organisations who received a share of over $400,000 in funding in our latest community grant round. We look forward to announcing more grants to local organisations committed to transforming the lives of disadvantaged children,” added Vanessa.
