Grant for art therapy lessons for local children

29 August 2016

Hillcrest-based community organisation Logan West Community Artshare Alliance has received a grant of $14,100 from St.George Foundation to facilitate art therapy lessons for local children living with a disability.

Logan West Community Artshare Alliance runs the Young Stars Group, a weekly art therapy session which caters specifically to children with disabilities or special needs. Children learn to create their own art pieces while socialising with each other in a fun and positive environment.

Sherry Austin, President of Logan West Community Artshare Alliance said, “Our Young Stars Group is a unique opportunity for local children with disabilities to come together and focus their energies on creating art. It is a privilege to watch the children enjoy themselves and work with each other.

“Logan West Community Artshare Alliance is thrilled to partner with St.George Foundation and this generous donation will enable us continue funding the art therapy lessons,” Sherry added.

Ross Gillam, Head of Queensland & WA, St.George Bank, said, “We are delighted that a local organisation, Logan West Community Artshare Alliance, has received support from the St.George Foundation to offer these community art sessions for children.

“Logan West Community Artshare Alliance is one of 12 community organisations who received a share of over $400,000 in funding in the latest grant from St.George Foundation. St.George Foundation will hold further funding rounds this year and we encourage people to go into their St.George branch and recommend local organisations that help improve childrens’ lives,” added Ross.
