Supporting someone transitioning from an existing Debit card to a new St.George Visa Debit card or St.George Business Visa Debit card
The following FAQs apply to both the Personal St.George Visa Debit card and the St.George Business Visa Debit card.
Can they keep their existing Debit card?
No. The cards listed in this FAQ will be phased out, no longer supported or offered. All customers, including those represented by a Power of Attorney or State Trustee, must transition to a St.George Visa Debit card.
What do I need to do?
If you are helping someone who is part of this transition:
- Assist them in transitioning to the new St.George Visa Debit card.
- Update any payments linked to their existing Debit card number with the new St.George Visa Debit card details.
- No action is needed for payments set up using their BSB and account number.
Understanding the new St.George Visa Debit card
Daily Card Limits will remain the same on the new St.George Visa Debit card.
For cash a limit of $1,000 applies to the total of all cash withdrawals made using each card linked to an account, including:
- ATM cash withdrawals
- POS cash out transactions
- Fund transfers processed through eftpos
If you are supporting someone to manage their account, you can update their limit to any whole dollar amount up to $2,000. This can be done in Internet Banking, by calling Phone Banking or visiting a branch.
For purchases a limit of $8,000 applies to the total amount of all purchase transactions made using each card linked to an account, for example:
- Transactions made through a POS terminal
- Contactless transactions
- Transactions made online or by phone using a Visa Debit card number and expiry date on the front of the card
When will the new the new St.George Visa Debit card arrive?
The new St.George Visa Debit card will arrive by mail within 30-45 days of the initial notification. Ensure contact details including address, phone number, and email are correct so you can receive any important updates. If the card hasn’t arrived, contact us.
How will I know it’s coming?
You’ll receive a series of alerts via email to let you know that the new card is on the way.
Where will the card be sent?
The new St.George Visa Debit card and related communications will be sent to the mailing address on file. All communications regarding this transition will be sent to this address.
How to update the card mailing address?
To make sure the new St.George Visa Debit card and relevant communications are sent to the correct address, update the address, phone number, and email by the date specified in the initial email or letter we sent.
Ways to update:
1. Log in to St.George Internet Banking
2. Use the St.George App
3. Call us on 1300 307 080
4. Contact your usual St.George representative.

Already have a St.George Visa Debit card?
If the individual you're supporting already has a St.George Visa Debit card, it will continue to function as usual and no new card will be issued. We’ll provide further communications about the closure of their existing Debit card.

What if the St.George Visa Debit card is not suitable for the individual I am caring for?
If the individual you're supporting should not have access to the physical card, update the card mailing contact details. All future communications and the new St.George Visa Debit card will be sent to the mailing address we have on file. You can update the contact details in St.George Internet Banking, in the St.George App, contacting us on 1300 307 080, or by contacting your St.George representative.
If the St.George Visa Debit card is not a suitable product for the person you support, please contact us to discuss alternative ways to access their account.
Can online purchases be restricted?
You can’t block online purchases specifically, but you can control the overall spending, including online transactions, by setting a Daily Spend Limit.
