Taking full advantage of this card 

There are a few things you can do to better manage your credit card balance and enjoy the rewards and benefits offered by this card.

For example, say you apply for the card and are approved with a credit limit of $10,000 and a balance transfer of $6,600. You have $3,400 remaining to spend on everyday purchases and you spend $1,000 on average each month.

  1. To pay no interest on your balance transfer you need to pay it off before the promotional period ends. For example, say you decide to pay your $6,600 balance off in equal monthly instalments over 22 months. This means you’d pay $300 each month over the 22-month promotional period.#
  2. Get interest-free days on your purchases when you have a balance transfer when you pay off your new purchases plus any fees in full each month (called the 'Monthly Payment Balance' or the Closing Balance where you don't have a balance transfer). For example, you spend $1,000 each month. You’ll need to pay the $1,000 in full plus any fees incurred by the due date to get up to 55 days interest free on your purchases.
  3. Earn Qantas Points on your everyday purchases. You can also earn 60,000 bonus Qantas Points if you spend at least $2,000 within the first 90 days.* Based on our example where you spend $1,000 a month, that would take around 2 months.
  4. Putting everything together. So to pay your balance transfer down, earn rewards points and enjoy interest-free days on purchases, you should make a card repayment of $1,300 ($300 of your monthly balance transfer instalment plus $1,000 of your new purchases plus any fees) by the due date shown on your statement each month.

Cancelling your old cards

St.George will not cancel your other Card Account(s). If your aim is to pay down your balances and reduce the number of credit cards you hold, it may be helpful to cancel your old card account(s) once the balance transfer is complete so you don’t use them and accrue more debt. You can cancel a credit card online or over the phone (although you are still liable to pay off any balance).

#Balance Transfer Promotion: The promotional balance transfer rate is available when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Platinum credit card between 15th January 2020 and 31st March 2020, and request at card application to transfer balance(s) from up to 3 non-Bank of Melbourne, St.George and BankSA Australian issued credit, charge or store cards. The rate will apply to balance(s) transferred (min $200 up to 80% of your approved available credit limit) for the promotional period, unless the amount is paid off earlier. Card activation will trigger the processing of the balance transfer. At the end of the promotional period, the applicable variable cash advance rate will apply to any outstanding transferred balance(s). We will not be responsible for any delays that may occur in processing payment to your other card account(s) and will not close the account(s). If your account has an interest free period for purchases, to be entitled to that interest free period, you need to pay off the 'Monthly Payment Balance' listed on your statement of account (not the full closing balance) by the relevant payment due date.

*Bonus Points Promotion: The respective bonus points promotion is available when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Platinum credit card between 15th January 2020 and 31st March 2020 and spend the minimum amount of $2,000 on eligible purchases on the new Amplify Platinum card within 90 days from card approval. Eligible purchases do not include BPAY or BPAY equivalent transactions, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds, balance transfers debited from the card account, government fees and ATO payments. Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. The bonus points will be credited to your points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met.

Purchases that are not eligible to earn points include payments to the Australian Taxation Office and other circumstances set out in the Amplify Rewards and Amplify Qantas Terms and Conditions (PDF 1010KB). You do not receive points if your card account is in arrears for 2 consecutive statement cycles and in other circumstances. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem Qantas points. Qantas Points earned during a statement cycle are added to your Qantas Points balance on a monthly basis. A joining fee usually applies, but for a limited time St.George has arranged for this to be waived for new Amplify cardholders who are not already members and who choose to link their card to Amplify Qantas (limit of one complimentary membership per new account).
